In Islam, Quranic exegesis (tafsir) is highly valued as it explains the word of God as revealed in the Quran.

This course is intended for students who have a fair understanding of Arabic. They will engage in analytical study of Quranic commentary in Arabic, learning word meanings, the occasions of revelation, and the overall message of the verses. Also, they will draw legal rulings and explore theological, juristic, rhetorical, and syntactic issues using a standard work of Quranic commentary. A specialized teacher will guide the learning process.

Upon completion of the course, students will have a deep understanding of the verses of the Quran and be able to consult the works of Quranic commentary with ease, having developed a familiarity with their methods through the course.
